The Fall Creek Hut
The Fall Creek Hut is located on State Of Idaho lands about 6 airline miles Northeast of McCall Idaho. The hut sits at about 900' vertical feet above the east side of Payette Lake at an elevation of about 5800'. The hut is accessed from a PLAY maintained parking lot, off Eastside Drive about 4 miles east of McCall. The route to the hut follows a summer access road for 2.4 miles then takes off through the timber another 200 yards to the hut. The hut is new this year, replacing a smaller older hut from last year. Our wood fired sauna and composting outhouse have received great reviews from our guests. You can see more photos in the Gallery.
The terrain around the Fall Creek Hut is mostly
beginner to intermediate with some steeper sections. Total vertical is about
1200 ' with slopes ranging from 12 degrees to 30 degrees on mostly open terrain.
There are logging roads for cross-country skiers and lots of open space and
woods for snow shoe enthusiasts. The winter wildlife usually consists of pine
martins, snowshoe hares, weasels , grouse and occasional visits by wolves. We
have even seen a few wolverine tracks. The
hut site affords panoramic views of Payette Lake , Long Valley and the
surrounding mountains.
