The Twah Creek Hut
The Twah Creek Hut is located on State of Idaho lands leased by PLAY. The hut is accessed from a PLAY maintained parking lot off Eastside Drive about 7 miles from McCall, ID. The hut is a moderate 4.5 mile ski or snowshoe from the parking lot. The route passes through dense forest and a stream crossing before joining a logging road for the next mile and a half then finally the last half mile through meadows and dense forest to the hut. The hut sits on a knoll in timber with a view of Payette Lake.
The hut is a 12'x24' steel structure
with a fabric cover and is insulated with windows. The new high efficiency air tight wood stove and wood fired sauna
make for quite comfortable stay. The hut is equipped with
solar lighting and a composting outhouse. The terrain around
the hut is as diverse as it is expansive. Thanks to large forest fires in 1994
much of the area is covered with open snag forests. The slopes range from
beginner (10-15 degrees) to expert (35-45 degrees) with some extreme chutes
(over 50 degrees) in 'A Bowl ' (see gallery). There are lots of rolling hills and
meadows for snowshoers and cross-country skiers. See more pictures in the
Gallery.
